New Superintendent, Lowell Cemetery

June 1, 2016 — The Lowell Cemetery Board of Trustees today announced the appointment of Seth E. Durno as Superintendent of the Lowell Cemetery. Durno has been Acting Superintendent since January.
According to James D. Latham, Board Chair, “Seth has invested himself fully in the care and management of this historic cemetery. He combines a broad ranging background as an active manager of operations with a demonstrated capacity for strong leadership. He is able to motivate people to do their best work, individually and together.”

Durno began his career at the Cemetery in 2005 as Assistant Superintendent. Over the years, he has brought strategic and operational leadership to the Cemetery. Now, serving under the supervision of the Trustees, he will implement the organization’s vision, mission, and values as well as manager the conservation and preservation of the Cemetery’s historic architectural and environmental resources.
“I am deeply grateful for the confidence the Trustees have in me,” Durno said. “I am committed to working with them and the staff to make certain the Lowell Cemetery’s future is as remarkable as its past.”

Durno replaces Bray Walsh, who passed away in January of this year.

The Lowell Cemetery, founded in 1841, is celebrating its 175th anniversary. It is one of the first garden-style cemeteries in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Cemetery is renowned for its beautiful landscape, historic and artistic monuments, and the many notable people buried there.
